Hastelloy is made up of nickel and the addition of tungsten makes the alloy resistance-free qualities under a wide range of changing environments. As the alloy has less carbon content it does not form carbide precipitation while welding. The presence of nickel ensures that alloy is well preserved from forming the grain boundaries in the heat-affected zones of the metal. Thus the metal is best suited for applications like in different welding and chemical process.
Some of the important properties of the machine screws made by Hastelloy are excellent resistance to corrosion. They also offer better resistance to strong salts such as cupric chlorides and ferric chloride. They can also protect themselves from wet chlorine gas and hypochlorite and even chlorine dioxide. The alloy contains some amount of Molybdenum, Iron, Cobalt, Manganese, Carbon, Phosphorous, Sulphur, and Silicon. The alloy can be forged by the process called as hot- upset. Nearly all types of welding can be performed on this alloy. Screws made of this alloy are preferred in stack liners, stack-gas re heaters, and various fan housing. It is also used in the making of various ducts and dampers. It plays a major role in flue gas desulfurization systems. Also used in machines those are used in pulp and paper production.
