UNS S31008 grade is another common name of stainless steel 310. This steel grade is superior to other stainless steel grades like 304 or 309. The presence of chromium and high nickel offers several useful properties to this grade. The grade is similar to the 309 stainless steel. However, the properties like corrosion and oxidation resistant are different for stainless steel 310 to 309. Moreover, it is similar to its counterpart 310S but the presence of carbon improves its weldability and minimizes the carbide precipitation.
Stainless 310 impressions die forging, open die hammer forging, closed die forging, press forging, compression forging, upset and hot forging are few of its types. These forging can sustain high-temperature service applications because of the addition of carbon in high quantity.
Moreover, it shows less or no effect in such conditions to intergranular corrosion. It is even good to serve in wet and high-temperature applications where corrosion is experienced by the forgings. This is the case with service environments but for continuous service, they can be used at a higher temperature of 1922 degree F. Moreover, at peak temperatures up to 2012 degree F these forgings are useful.
